Low Self Esteem

Understanding Self-Esteem

The way we see ourselves can influence almost every area of our lives, from our relationships and the decisions we make to the opportunities we pursue and the boundaries we set.

When our self-esteem is low, we may find ourselves constantly questioning our worth, comparing ourselves to others or seeking reassurance and approval to feel good enough.

Sometimes these beliefs develop through past experiences, relationships or the expectations we've placed on ourselves. Over time, they can become so familiar that we stop questioning whether they're actually true.

Building self-esteem isn't about believing you're perfect or feeling confident all the time. It's about developing a healthier relationship with yourself, recognising your own value and learning to trust yourself, even when things feel uncertain.

Signs You May Be Struggling With Self-Esteem

You might recognise some of the following:

- You frequently doubt yourself or question your abilities.
- You struggle to accept compliments or recognise your achievements.
- You compare yourself to others and often feel you're falling short.
- You seek reassurance or validation from other people.
- You find it difficult to say no, set boundaries or prioritise your own needs.
- You worry excessively about what others think of you.
- You're highly self-critical or hold yourself to unrealistic standards.
- You avoid opportunities or challenges because you're afraid of failing or being judged.
- You struggle to express your opinions or advocate for yourself.
- You stay in situations or relationships that don't meet your needs because you question whether you deserve better.

Low self-esteem doesn't always look like a lack of confidence. Sometimes it shows up as perfectionism, overachieving, people-pleasing or constantly feeling the need to prove yourself.

How I Can Help

At Empowered House, I provide a supportive, non-judgemental space to explore how you see yourself, the beliefs you've developed and the experiences that may have shaped your confidence and self-worth.

Together, we'll identify patterns of self-criticism, people-pleasing and self-doubt, helping you challenge unhelpful beliefs and develop a more balanced and compassionate understanding of yourself.

Through greater self-awareness, practical tools and meaningful changes in how you think and respond, we'll work towards strengthening your confidence, establishing healthier boundaries and developing greater trust in your own judgement.

The aim isn't to become someone different. It's to feel more comfortable, secure and confident in who you already are.

You don't have to become more accomplished, more attractive or more successful to be worthy of confidence and self-respect. Sometimes the most meaningful change is learning to recognise the value you've had all along.
